Fresh Coat
Agaaain!
It really depends on your pup's breed, coat type, and lifestyle. Most dogs benefit from a grooming session every 6-8 weeks to keep them looking and feeling their best. However, some high-maintenance coats or active pups might need more frequent visits. Always happy to discuss a customised grooming schedule for your fur baby!
Dog grooming takes time due to various factors. These include the dog's coat type, any mats that need careful removal, breed-specific styles, bathing and drying, nail trimming, behaviour and cooperation, safety precautions, checking for health issues, accommodating specific requests, and cleaning tools between dogs. Each of these elements contributes to the overall time needed to groom a dog effectively and safely. Groomers put in extra care to make sure your pet enjoys a positive, tail-wagging experience!
Matted dog fur happens when the hair becomes tangled and forms tight knots or clumps. This can occur due to various reasons like infrequent brushing, moisture, or movement. It's important to address mats promptly, as they can be uncomfortable or even painful for your dog. Regular brushing and grooming help prevent matting and keep your pup's coat healthy and comfortable.
Unfortunately if the matted area becomes too large or too close to the skin, we may need to shave your pooches coat very short as this is the only way to remove the matted fur safely and without causing too much discomfort.
In order to safely remove matted fur or demat fur, a lot of time and attention is needed! Firstly, shave offs require clippering before and after their bath. The pre bath clippering is to remove the matted fur, the post Bath clippering is to smooth out the coat and style your dog.
Pre bath clippering means our clippers have to work through your pup's unclean hair which blunts our grooming equipment and then require replacing.
Clippering a matted dog also takes a long time as we have to work hard not to nick the skin as we're shaving so close to the body. Often times matted dogs skin is irritated and sometimes sore which can make this even harder.
Please don't feel embarrassed if you are bringing in a matted dog as we understand that even with the best intentions matting can happen! Maintaining your pups fur is hard work and some pooches have tanglier fur than others. All we care about is getting your pup comfortable and their gorgeous fur back on track
Brushing your dog's coat regularly helps prevent mats and tangles, making grooming a more pleasant experience.
Handle your dog gently and patiently. Avoid pulling on tangles or mats, as this can cause discomfort.
Regularly touch and handle your dog's paws, ears, tail, and other sensitive areas to desensitize them to touch, patience and positive reinforcement are key. With time and gentle guidance, most dogs can learn to associate grooming with a positive and bonding experience.
